Numerical solution of the MHD Reynolds equation for squeeze film lubrication between two parallel surfaces

چکیده
Characteristic features of squeeze film lubrication between two rectangular plates, of which, the upper plate has a roughness structure, in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field are examined. The fluid in the film region is represented by a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting couple-stress fluid. The thickness of the fluid film region is h and that of the roughness is hs . The pressure distribution in the film region is governed by the modified Reynolds equation, which also incorporates the roughness structure and couple stress fluid. This Reynolds equation is solved using a novel multigrid method for all involved physical parameters. It is observed that the pressure distribution, load carrying capacity and squeeze film-time increase for smaller values of couple-stress parameter and for increasing roughness parameters and Hartmann number compared to the classical case. 2012 Elsevier Inc. Elastoplastic contact of rough surfaces: a line contact model for boundary regime of lubrication
This paper introduces an improved friction model accounting for elastoplastic behavior of interacting asperities along contiguous rough surfaces for a line contact solution. It is based on Greenwood and Tripp’s original boundary friction model and specifically tailored for a boundary regime of lubrication. The numerical solution of Reynolds’ equation is achieved by implementing Elrod’s cavitati...
متن کاملApproximate Analysis of MHD Squeeze Flow between Two Parallel Disks with Suction or Injection by Homotopy Perturbation Method
An analysis has been performed to study magneto-hydrodynamic MHD squeeze flow between two parallel infinite disks where one disk is impermeable and the other is porous with either suction or injection of the fluid. We investigate the combined effect of inertia, electromagnetic forces, and suction or injection. With the introduction of a similarity transformation, the continuity and momentum equ...
متن کاملFerrofluid lubrication of circular squeeze film bearings controlled by variable magnetic field with rotations of the discs, porosity and slip velocity
Based on the Shliomis ferrofluid flow model (SFFM) and continuity equation for the film as well as porous region, modified Reynolds equation for lubrication of circular squeeze film bearings is derived by considering the effects of oblique radially variable magnetic field (VMF), slip velocity at the film-porous interface and rotations of both the discs. The squeeze film bearings are made up of ...
متن کاملSqueeze-film Lubrication of the Human Ankle Joint: a Simplified Analytical Model during Walking
The aim of this paper is to propose an analytical approximate squeeze-film lubrication model of the human ankle joint for a quick assessment of the synovial pressure field and the load carrying due to the squeeze motion, considering both normal and pathological behaviour. The model starts from the theory of boosted lubrication for the human articular joints lubrication (Walker, et al., 1968; Ma...
متن کاملDynamic and Static Pull-in instability of electrostatically actuated nano/micro membranes under the effects of Casimir force and squeezed film damping
In the current study, the effects of Casimir force and squeeze film damping on pull-in instability and dynamic behavior of electrostatically actuated nano and micro electromechanical systems are investigated separately. Linear elastic membrane theory is used to model the static and dynamic behavior of the system for strip, annular and disk geometries. Squeeze film damping is modeled using nonli...
